SNOWY RESOLUTION

I am sitting here watching the snow pile up outside...and looking for a good reason NOT to join you all and try and eat more healthy and smart... and I cannot come up with one. My mom being sick-- our finances being up and down --and the pooping of multiple puppies is rough but none are a good enough excuse to let my body go and get so out of shape that climbing out of bed in the morning is exhausting! i MUST start to work out again and eat GREEN and HEALTHY so that i can still be with it and full of vim and vigor when I have granddarlings to dote over!!
OK so HELLLLLLP ! Where do I start? the last time i did southbeach i nearly broke thru the KFC's drive thru screen when i saw their biscuits-- and I used to sit and stare out the window and think that i saw a cream cheese bagle in the clouds! ( ugh! ) SO, I am admitting here on this BLOG thing that I have NO willpower only the desire to start something new and better for myself. ( that even sounds weird saying) In any case, I am really really proud of both of you and the wonderful ways that you encourage each other on here... it is so cool. I am also the happiest mom in the world for both of you getting married this year and I am so excited about both of your weddings. Well, I guess if i write down what i eat every day on here you all can tell me what is good and bad -- i think that i will just start with that and then on Feb 1st start the Official Diet of choice.
OK today I had a bowl of Honey bunches of Oats with 1% milk and 3 cups of coffee and three handfulls of Chex mix within the last hour... Iloveyou both ! mwah! keep me posted and this should be a blast!

Monday

It's ok. Everyone falls off sometimes. I think you are def not eating too much salt, unless you've been keeping a salt block in your room and licking it at night. :) haha. SB is generally low in salt so it wouldn't be that - I think truly you just need to tone. You shouldn't really be focused on losing weight bc you don't need to. If you want to look like Alba you gotta work that booty. haha. So you should be fine eating whole grains and fruits and veggies as much as possible.

Today was crazy, it rained and we had floods here so I went into work late and then just got home. This is my mid-term week so I may be writing on here a little less than usual. Sorry about that in advance.

Can't wait to see you - good job on getting back on the wagon!

Food Log -

Breakfast - cottage cheese, pineapple
Snack 1 - apple, almonds (15)
Lunch - leftover deer burger chili, 1 mozzarella string cheese, iced tea
Snack 2 - 1 mozzarella string cheese
Dinner - salmon grilled, black beans, corn, 1% milk

--Ash

Ouch!

...I fell off the wagon this weekend, but I'm back in action. Not with SB...I'm currently mad at SB. Oh well, I will continue to use the blog as a food/exercise log!!

CONGRATS on 10 lbs! That's amazing! SO SO SO Happy for you! You can DO it!!

Food:
Breakfast: 2 pieces turkey sausage, 2 cups coffee black
Snack: apple
Lunch: String cheese?
Snack: mixed nuts
Dinner: Flank steak, brown rice & salad w/tomato and balsamic dressing

*My weight loss hasn't budged more than 3 lbs... a friend of mine suggested that I may be eating more salt than usual so my body is retaining water?? I don't see that...I've been peeing a ton, and I think I'm eating way less salt than usual...

Leaving work early today so I'm hoping I can get a little run in (lady problems, so you understand) and do my beach body fast DVD... I'm hoping it'll give me a little boost. We're going to the grocery store tonight so I'm going to get some whole wheat tortillas, etc and maybe some stuff to make pizzas with that whole wheat crust you were telling me about. Still going to eat healthy--even though I didn't this weekend. :-X

Anyway, hope you have a great day!!

Love you!

TGIF...again...

I am so glad it's Friday! The week is finally over.

Going to weigh myself tomorrow to report my progress.
I am guessing I weigh around 161. We shall see.
I am feeling great - somedays I have more energy than others but overall I am happy that I'm sticking with it.

Today is day 22 without a cigarette and it feels great.
Loving the great breath and the smoke-free smell of my hands.
I haven't been around anyone drinking though since I started - that will be the true test.
I'm feeling better about Grandmother Grace's situation so that has definately helped.

Sold a few books online today which is good. Can you say $$$$????????

I don't have to work tomorrow which is nice but I have lots of wedding things to do and a quiz to take. Hopefully I can squeeze in a workout and some time to relax.

Food Log -

Breakfast - one egg over-hard, 3 slices turkey bacon, black eyed peas, skim milk
Snack 1 - apple
Lunch - salad w/ tuna, celery, cucumber & ranch, iced tea, cottage cheese, melon

Snack 2 - peanuts (3 handfuls)

That sounds like a plan...Day 21

I think you made the right decision.

It was obvioulsy not working for you so I think it's better you try something new. Exercise is a great way to tone and it's addicting once you start!

What you should focus on is staying motivated and eating what you know to be healthy as much as you can. Hopefully this blog will keep you working out and keeping a food log. With a food log you are able to see clearly where your diet could use some tweaking - and it's great to keep track of how often you work out.

We will be starting families at some point in the future and I think we should be in the best shape of our lives when we do! I think you've done a great job - you looked GREAT! when I saw you and you seem like you feel good. I think healthy carbs will give you the energy you've been craving lately and will probably boost your mood a little - like a good walk with the dogs.

...I'm sorry I don't speak "blog".
Which email do you need?
My personal one?
Do I get to pick a password?
haha.

My day was good.

I went to the post office early this morning - I've been selling a lot of books lately on the internet. It's really fun and I like doing the sales and stuff. Who knows? Career avenue?! haha. I also sent off the bridesmaid invites we made - Kaitlyn's gonna crack up when she see's your logo on the back!

I worked from 10-7. I only have one more week at my temp job and then it's back to the grind. hopefully I will be able to find something cool in this quirky little town.

I did schoolwork - next week is mid-terms and I have a quiz I need to finish before sunday at midnight.

I made dinner - Kyle refereed the elementary school wrestling match tonight and didn't get home till 9:30 so I made some dinner and watched Nancy Grace.

Tomorrow I work till 4:30 then I hope to be able to run. ;)

Food Log -

Breakfast - 2 eggs overhard, 4 slices turkey bacon, skim milk
Snack 1 - apple, almonds (15)
Lunch - salad w/ tuna, celery, and cucumber w/ ranch, iced tea, cottage cheese, melon
Snack 2 - mozzarella cheese stick

Wacky Wednesday!

Today was the 1st day of class at the college so of course the bookstore was CRAZY! The kids in there are just clueless - I went in early and got off early so I could go watch Kyle's team's last hone wrestling match of the season. They lost 60-30. Ouch! They were cute though. I love guys in singlets. haha.

Got home a bit ago and just finished up my schoolwork for the day. I have a quiz I need to take this week, who knows when I'll get time to do that.

Going over to the track now for a bit. Hope to run a couple of miles and clear my head so I'm ready to tackle the 2nd day of classes all over again.

Yeah, I would just move on to phase 2 if I were you. That's so weird. Mom and I think you are just too skinny to do it. Tone, tone, tone and don't worry about "losing" weight. It may be that you are just building muscle now like Tyler said and it is replacing the flab (not that you have much!).

Food Log -

Breakfast - cottage cheese, melon, hot tea
Snack 1 - apple, almonds (20)
Lunch - chicken breast, spinach, black eyed peas, iced tea
Snack 2 - string cheese, peanuts
Dinner - ceasar salad w/ chicken, skim milk

--Ash

Woeful Wednesday

SO TIRED. Got in a quick run with the dogs after work & then did SELF's DVD "Beach Body FAST." So tired. My arms, legs, abs... they all want to go to sleep.

Food Log:
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, turkey sausage (haha still not sick of it!)
Snack: Mixed Nuts
Lunch: Hot dog, apple, string cheese
Snack: String cheese
Dinner: Burger on romaine hearts w/ tomato & carrots and hummus & a salad

Weight is still not budging, and I'm annoyed but trying not to be. If I don't see at least 3-5 more this week, I'll probably stop on Sunday and just move into Phase 2 on Monday, and just accept that South Beach just doesn't really work for me... There's no point in depriving my body of things if I'm going to be working out hard either way...Frustrating...

I'll set up the bridesmaids blog this weekend. Work has been surprisingly busy so I haven't had the chance. So...tomorrow if I can find the time or Saturday!

Tired Tuesday

Food:
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, hot tea
Snack: mixed nuts
Lunch: Hot dog (2), pickle, string cheese
Snack: String cheese, coke 0
Dinner: Burger on romaine & salad w/ tomato and carrots

Ran 2 1/2 miles on the elliptical & did some arm work outs... had a quick work out today because the gym was crowded!!

So tired, looking forward to some lounging around & TV tonight!

P.S.: Laura, Rach's sister, started doing SB after we did and finished phase one and lost 10 pounds! SO FRUSTRATING! I am still at 147... :-( Although my friend Ty said that maybe that's because I'm building muscle...and muscle weighs more than fat. Either way, annoying.

--Lia

Tuesday's a wash

Well today was a complete wash. I had to work and I woke up a little late so basically all I did was work today. No run. No grocery store. No anything.

I just got home and have schoolwork to do and dinner to make so...yeah. That's life.
I feel great though, just bummed I couldn't get to the track tonight for a run. Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow.

I got my 1st W-2 in the mail today and you know what that means - it's TAX time!!!! Yippee! I wonder how much I'll get back this year!! :)

Food Log -

Breakfast - scrambled eggs w/ fat free cheese
Snack 1 - almonds (15)
Lunch - salad w/ tuna, celery, cucumber, ranch dressing, cottage cheese, melon, iced tea

Happy B-Day pt. 2

You TOTALLY deserve a few glasses of red wine on your birthday. I'm sorry it wasn't more exciting... in general, I don't really like birthdays. I've found, over the years, that reality hardly ever meets your birthday expectations. Except 21...that one was pretty epic. <3>
I hope you have a FUN night with Kyle! Watch Inglorious Basterds! You'll love it! We're going to watch this movie called Margo at the Wedding about two estranged sisters reuniting at one of the sister's wedding...should be interesting...drama... ahahahha So glad we don't have to worry about that.

The CAKE is overrated at weddings, unless it's DAMN good hahaha... cannolis would be soo cute and classy, also DELICIOUS! That gets my vote! I've heard that 3.14 (Pi) Pizza in Winchester, if they're still around, makes amazing canolis...but Anita probably knows best!

I think 3 or 4 would be best, that way people don't get too hungry, tired, etc and as we said, the party can go as long as you want...you know around nine-ish the kids will be dragged home and uncle David will get baked and the real party will start hahahahaha!! So I'd say 3 0r 4... eat an early-ish dinner...sounds v. Italian to me!!!

Enjoy your wine! Drink a glass for me...I'm so wishing I could have some tonight but we both know I have broken that rule already and won't do it again!!

I won't forget the laptop! I think we're gonna come Saturday since either way, Sat. or Sun. we won't get up there until 1ish... sound good??
LOVE YOU!

--Lia

Cake Smake

Yea, cake is annoying, when you can't have any and it is in your face. However, I was going to mention to you earlier that Kyle and I were talking and we both agreed that cake is highly overrated, especially at weddings. No one hardly touches the stuff because they are so full on the dinner they so graciously gorged on beforehand. Anyway, we are thinking of having only a small cake for the two of us and then maybe cannoli's or some tiramisu for our guests - staying with the italian theme. Anyway, just wanted to mention that after your terribly difficult cake ordeal today.

The all-beef hotdog are sounding delicious - I am definately gonna get some this weekend. Never had one that I can think of. Salmon filets can be found inthe frozen section too in packets of 2. They are not that bad if you go to superwalmart. Also, any other kinds of fish are good too, swordfish is like fish "steak" hearty and delicious and a bit cheaper too.

Today was the most uneventful, boring birthday I have EVER experienced. I worked from 10-6:30 in the college bookstore, helping students find the books they needed and ringing up their orders on the cash register. I was hoping someone at work work say " Happy Birthday" at some point or they would let me go home a few minutes early but no....of course not. Not in my life.

Anyway, it is 7pm. I am finally home. I am not doing schoolwork tonight - that was decided yesterday. I will do my stuff on Saturday and tomorrow and Sunday if I have to but today - NO!
I refuse. Only fun tonight!

Is it bad to drink a glass or two of red wine on your birthday if you're a SouthBeacher?????

I am trying to pick a good time for our wedding ceremony on the May 29th - do you think 3pm? 4pm? or 5pm? Keep in mind it will be staying lighter later and also time to take photos after the ceremony. Lemme know what you think...

Oh yea, try to remember to bring the old laptop you have when you come on Sunday - I wanna see if Zach can revive it. Thanks love.

Food Log -

Breakfast - 3 scrambled eggs w/ jalepenos and salsa, deer steak (small)
Snack 1 - apple and almonds (15)
Lunch - salad w/ tuna, celery, cucumber, south beach italian dressing, cottage cheese, melon
Dinner - filet mignon, steamed veggies, salad w/ ranch
Snack 2 - planning on a few glasses of red wine :)

--Ash

P.S.

OMG. I WOULD LOVE A WII & WII FIT! I've been trying to win one on the radio for the last few weeks but to no avail.! You should put that on your registry! HAHAHA

__Lia

CAKE IS SO ANNOYING.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to rain on your birthday parade, but can I just say that cake sucks? Not only did I have to pick up a 50 pound sheet cake from the grocery store and carry it up to my office, but then I had to stand around in a crowded room with people gorging themselves on chocolate cake w/ raspberry filling. About 15 people offered me a piece. It took everything in me to turn them down. It looked so damn good. I kept thinking, I could sneak a piece, but I held back, thinking of how just this morning I was complaining that I hadn't lost enough weight. OIE! It's tough being a South Beach-er. I wonder what the North Beach is like. Is that an all-cake diet? If so, I may be walking up the beach sometime soon.

Good day, busy day at work minus the cake incident. I'm working out with Tyler after work today, gonna do some arms, biking and some running in. Then home to figure out dinner. My food supply is dwindling but I'm too lazy to go to the store. I'll probably eat one of those delish. hot dogs. Seriously, they're so good. I got Oscar Meyer all-beef hot dogs, they were the best choice when I compared nutr. facts. I just pop one in the microwave for 45 secs. and I wa-la! I have lunch or dinner.

I'd love to get some salmon filets this weekend, but they're so expensive!

Food:
Breakfast: Turkey sausage patty, banana
Snack: Tangerine
Lunch: Roasted chicken, green beans & chickpeas
Snack: Carrots & string cheese
Dinner: Hot dog, 2 tuna lettuce-wiches...meaning tuna on romaine hearts. Oh, how they DO NOT COMPARE to a slice of bread...but I ran my BUM OFF tonight, so any food was good.

Tonight, I ran 2 miles with high resistance (8) woo hoo! Then did 2 arm exercises, an intense ab workout and also one for the chubs on my sides... I'm dead tired but I after a shower and some dinner, I feel good.

Shapely alright

Oh the good ole' days!

I am elated to hear about your new excitement regarding food. There are so many great things out there to try - and organic is good too, it's not just a "fad". I am feeling better today and more energized. I worked and had school and dinner to make so I didn't go to the track as planned. I fully intend on working out tomorrow morning before work. I love pilates too, it is soooo great for your body. We would love to have you and the doggies if you are free.

I work till 6:30 tomorrow night. Call me around 7 and we can chat about the weekend. :)

Food Log -

Breakfast - 2 eggs, fat free cheese, 4 slices turkey bacon, skim milk
Lunch - salad w/ cucumber, celery, tuna, ranch, cottage cheese, melon, iced tea

Snack 2 - baby carrots (10)

Baby Steps

At each trip to the grocery store, I'm branching out more and more. I totatlly forgot about cottage cheese, which I love. I can't tell you how much I remember you eating cottage cheese and peaches 24/7 when we were growing up! The best part of all of this is that I'm not a picky eater at all, I'll try anything. Unless it's like pig ear or cow heart. OR GUINEA PIG. David ate that in Peru...so sad. Poor little things.

I really like pilates. The concept of stretch & strengthen and using your own body weigh to tone works well for me. I don't want to get bulky, just toned, and I think this is a good approach.

Yay! I can't believe you're turning 27! That's ridiculous! We were just 14 & 10, weren't we? I love you a lot! So proud of you for no ciggys! Woo hoo! Still want to come up on Saturday if you guys don't have plans!!

P.S.: BLESS you for the idea of crystal lite sugarfree! It has literally CHANGED MY WHOLE LIFE! Ahahahaha I am no longer stuck with horrible bland water: I have sugar-free juice AND tea!

Food:
Breakfast: Turkey sausage, 2 scrambled eggs & a banana w/ black tea
Snack: mixed nuts
Lunch: All-beef hot dog, salad w/ balsamic dressing and low-fat turkey, clementine
Snack: 2 string cheese
Dinner: burger on romaine hearts w/tomato & low-fat cheese, steamed broccoli, apple w/ peanut butter

Exercise:
*
Going to run/bike and do some light lifting after work today!

Manic Monday

Your menu looks good. You should try to branch out whenever possible and eat different things. I'm loving the organic ranch - thats totally great. Try zuccini and squash sliced and sauteed in evoo with a little seasoning, it great as a side, also for a snack, try fruit w/ cottage cheese if you like that, avacado is really good too. Cook beans (black, pinto, navy, kidney, lentils) as a side or get the easy steamfresh veggies - they are usually 2 For $ at the grocery store. Anyway, I have lots of ideas for you to SPICE up your menu. :) I just don't have that much time tonight -

...so.... my day was pretty uneventful - I worked and ran (go me! Workout 1 - check). Made a very measly dinner and watched To Kill A Mockingbird on tv. Last night I took a 'Tylenol pm' for the first time and it actually worked, I had the best night's sleep I've had in years! I have been feeling good the last few days, lighter and more aware of myself. I still have a bit of a lingering cough but I am overall feeling 100% better than last Monday. Ran today which was good. Getting back into the swing of things.

Oh yea, I wanted to announce that my birthday is Thursday - I will be 27! Ahh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, I know, it's not a BIG birthday like 25 or say 30, but I love birthday's!

Food Log -

B - 2 eggs, 1 slice fat free cheese, 2 slices turkey bacon, skim milk
L - Salad w/ tuna, celery, cucumber, ranch, cottage cheese + melon, water
D - steamed broccoli w/ fat free cheese, canned white meat chicken w/ celery, mayo, raisins (small palmful)
S 1 - almond, peanut, soy nut mix
S 2 - apple, peanut butter

Days without cigs - 11 and going strong!! --Ash

Wow, Day 11!

Back to feeling energetic instead of sluggish. I got some great food at the grocery store last night & spent some quality time with my grandmother yesterday afternoon, so I'm feeling very content & happy.

Snack: Mixed nuts, 1 cup
Lunch: All-beef low-fat hot dog, carrots & organic ranch
Snack: Mozz cheese stick, pickle
Dinner: Lean cheeseburger w/ low fat cheese, tomato on romaine hearts, salad w/ balsamic

Pilates & a long walk outside with the pups today after work because I couldn't bring myself to wake up early this morning!

Happy Monday! --Lia

Sunday

McDonalds is annoying. End of story.

Today we went to our marriage class at McLean, it was so fun. I hope we can get set up with a small group & meet some young couples in the area! We're now headed over to aunt Elizabeth's to see Grandmother Grace.

Food:
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, apple
Snack: celery & peanut butter
Lunch: String cheese & tuna
Snack: Small salad with turkey, tomatoes & vinagrette
Dinner: Shrimp & spinach

Will do pilates tonight when we get back! Also must go to the grocery store & rethink some menu ideas because I'm getting really bored with what I'm eating, and therefore I'm not wanting to make meals and not eating enough. Yesterday I was so weak it was ridiculous. Last night I was in bed by 1 and woke up at 7:30 and had to take a 2 hour nap after church...should have more energy than that!

As it turns out, my start weight was: 150.6 lbs.
Today: 147 lbs.

3 pounds!

Saturday McFatterday

Did you know McDonalds makes a BigMac wrap?! Can you explain this to me?...McDonalds - King of the Fatty's - invents a line of wraps intended for it's more health conscious patrons, only to put out a wrap that contains all the sh*t that made us all fat in the first place!

Anyway, that's my rant for the day. I am tired. To couch and football game.

My Expectations: TOTALLY REALISTIC.

Is it too unrealistic to dream of ending up on the other side of all of this with Jessica Alba's body? Maybe? A little? Oh well. I love her. That's all I want. I don't want riches, fame, shopping sprees... I just want Jessica Alba's body.

Where is the Jessica Alba diet? Where do I sign up? My favorite part about the average female "celeb physique" is they just make it look so easy. Like they were born that way. OR that, despite the crazy hours they work and the flying back and forth from coast to coast for an afternoon--they have time for a 6 hour workout every day. On the beach, they look amazing. In a shop, thin as a rail. Stuffing a huge cheeseburger into their mouths, meek as a mouse. 3 weeks after a baby, those stomachs are back to being tighter and fitter than mine has ever been! No baby here! Nope!

All of this after 7 days of a strict diet and exercise. I'm a loon.
P.S.: Slept through Pilates today. SO SHOOT ME!

Food:
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, sausage
Snack: Handful of almonds & cashews
Lunch: Diet unsweetened ice team. Salad with tuna, tomatoes, cucumbers & balsamic v.
Snack: Mozz cheese stick & carrots
Dinner: Out @ Chengs: Filet mingon, aparagus, grilled baby eggplant, tomatoes, snow peas

Sorry, it's Friday. Also, a P.P.S to rant above: my boobs are better. --Lia

Saturday:
Breakfast: 3 eggs overeasy, sausage
Snack: string cheese
Lunch: BIG salad with tuna, tomatos, cucumbers, carrots and low-fat cheese
Snack: apple w/ peanut butter
Dinner: @ Callie's: take out from mexican restaurant: grilled chicken breast topped with grilled zucchini, tomato, bell peppers & onions

Comin' round the mountain...

Sign name to posts from now on. Check.

OK. So I am hypothetically coming around the mountain, that's the mountain of sickness by the way. I am slowly coming around and I think possibly by Monday I may actually have the strength and energy to workout.

To answer some of your questions my dear little sis...

1) No, eating too much low fat part skim mozzarella will not kill you - it may however make you a little constipated so either get some "Smooth Move" tea or some Ex lax, that should help. If you are having none of those problems than you should be fine eating it all day long.

2) Yes, too much caffeine is bad (like if you drank a BIG GULP of coffee every morning and 3 Coke's with dinner) but I think if you are having both sugar-free flavored water and black tea throughout the day you should be alright.

3) Yes, biking is GREAT for your butt. Bike all day - your butt will only get more fabulous! (p.s if you question me - take a look at Lance Armstrong's posterior :) )

4) OK. I know there was no question #4 but I just wanted to add, try to eat more in the mornings if you know you might not be able to get much for lunch, you need to make sure you always have fuel to burn especially when you're burning calories by working out. Also, don't stress about working out every day. Listen to your body, if you really are too tired or sick, give yourself a free day and do something active the next!

As far as my day, I went into work at 10am and my boss took one look at me and sent me home. I cleaned and organizaed and talked to Katie Hans and Sara Ayres on the phone for like an hour each! I also did some schoolwork and of course worked a little on my wedding website. I am shocked that Kyle and I know so many people. We are inviting 200 people!! Holy cow! I hope that a few people politely decline. haha.

I feel much better today than I have the past 3 days, despite my being sent home. I haven't gotten the energy to go workout yet but it's coming, I promise.

Kyle is at a match until 10pm so I am going to watch some Nancy Grace and relax. I am hopeful that I will go to work tomorrow and actually be permitted to stay - perhaps I should wear some make-up?!

Food Log -

Breakfast -2 eggs scrambled w/ fat free cheese and salsa, skim milk
Lunch - pinto beans, mixed steamed veggies, small salad w/ hard boiled egg, celery, cucumber, tuna, and ranch
Dinner - Angus burger w/ fat free cheese, spicy mustard, lettuce, black eyed peas, green beans
Snack 1 - grapefruit
Snack 2 - almonds (15)

Posts

Ash make sure you sign your post: Ash. I was told by a reader (random) that we didn't do that so you can't tell who is who! Haha! I went back and marked our previous ones! Just FYI!

Hope work was ok today & that you're feeling better! Love you!

Cheese Whiz

I feel like I'm eating too much cheese? Is that possible? Should I not be worrying about it? I eat a lot of string cheese, but it is low-fat! I'm not getting sick of it, I just hope I'm not over doing it! Also, I can't help it: I drink black tea like 24/7. I know it's keeping me hydrated, but is too much caffeine bad? It says on the SB thing I read to limit to 2 servings per day, but forget that. I haven't been drinking coffee at all, since I usually drink it with cream and sugar. So instead it's been unsweetened hot black tea all day.

I wanted to wake up this morning and do pilates again but I was too tired. We watched this show Brothers & Sisters last night and I was crying so hard...which always makes my eyes puffy and sore. So I'll blame my unwillingness to get up early this morning on TV. And my eyes. Going running today after work. My abs are super sore so I probably won't do any abs...and I can't seem to completely kick this cold. It's so aggrivating...I feel like a leaky faucet and my voice sounds like a man. Anyway, running or biking it shall be. P.S; Is biking good for your butt?

Food:
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs w/ lowfat cheese & three bean salsa, low-fat sausage patty
Snack: apple
Lunch: small salad, small chili
Snack: 2 mozz sticks
Dinner: BIG steak, salad with cucumber, tomato & balsamic dressing

Exercise:
6 miles on bike
arms: 3 reps of 20 with 5 lbs weights
arms: (different) 3 reps of 15 with 5 lb. weights

Oh Wednesday

Unfortunately I did not go to work today again, too sick, but not sick enough to keep me from schoolwork all day on the computer (and also occasionally looking at "the knot" to see what else there is too do - A LOT!) I am hoping that tomorrow is much better and that I get time to go to the track and walk, which is what I planned to do today but again, too sick. Tomorrow I have to work from 10:30am to 6:30pm but I swear I fully intend on working out at some point. Gosh, why does sickness = laziness?

Let's plan on weighing ourselves at the end of the week. Also, I want to make more of a plan as far as workouts for myself. Since I've have been sick I've been skimping on running but ASAP I'm going to get on it.

:) I feel good today despite the annoying sore throat and headache, the body aches are gone and the cough is subsiding a little.

Breakfast - 3 eggs w/ salsa, jalepenos, & fat free cheese
Lunch- large salad w/ tuna, bc crumbles, celery, cucumber, balsamic vin & evoo
Dinner - fish broiled, pinto beans, mixed steamed veggies, iced unsweet tea
Snack 1 - almonds (15)
Snack 2 - slices of bananna w/ peanut butter

Day 5

By the way - love the pic - it is so fitting on Day 5.

Today was not much better than yesterday in terms of how I feel. Still have a running nose, cough, body aches, headache, and a persistant sore throat. I did manage to go to the grocery store earlier (my excersize today, along with typing for hours on the computer) to get some EVOO and balsamic vinegar which was actually quite good on the salad I had for lunch. I did not go to work Monday or today so I am hoping the morning brings some energy and some motivation to do something productive.

Today's workout: Grocery shopping, typing, walking from computer chair to kitchen to get more hot tea.
Tomorrow 's workout plan: walk 3 miles at indoor track across the street

Sick of Mondays

Yes it's Monday and yes I'm sick. Literally. Sick and dieting do not go well together. Although I have had very little appetite today I have been feeling miserable. I took off work today and my workout consisted of taking down christmas decorations for 1 hour (maybe 300 calories) and cleaning the house moderately (another 300 calories burned maybe). Not much, but it was the best I could do based on my current circumstances. I am feeling overall - sick - but I hope to have a better report for you tomorrow. I hope to be able to go running tomorrow after work - but this means I will have to wake up earlier to get my schoolwork done. Oh how everything seems like more of a chore when you're sick. Off I go to drink some tea - wish me well! _ASH

Manic Mondays

YAY to Ash for her first post! You're awesome! I love you!

Back at work today after that odd two-week block that spans Christmas and New Years... a few days of work here and there but mostly I feel like I just came back from a HUGE break. Also, it's depressing to come back after New Years because you know there are NO days off for quite a while!

I feel good today. I noticed that while I'm not usually bright and chipper in the morning, I seemed more happy and alert when I woke up today. I moved more quickly. I have a bit of a headache which I've been experiencing on and off for the last few days. A few people told me I might feel this way, but it doesn't bother me. I've noticed that I remain pretty hungry throughout the day... snacks are helping me but I need to make more of an effort for meals, otherwise I'll starve! I can't eat string cheese for meals! Oie!

I was a little bit bad last night. We went over to a friends for dinner and to watch some football and I had a few cranberry & vodkas. I'm going to try really hard to cut out all alcohol, but if I behave badly, I'll only dabble in red wine & vodka. Deal?!

Today I'm "officially" starting my workout. I'm going to go running with a coworker of mine, do some weight machines for arms and legs and do an abs routine I picked up in college. If only I could afford a gym membership :( ... for now, I'll have to rely on generous friends and the 1980s gym at work!

Sunday:
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs & an apple
Snack: 2 stalks of celery & peanut butter
Lunch: Pickle & turkey breast
Snack: Mozz string cheese, pickle
Dinner: Beef roast (marinated in lipton tea & garlic), carrots, onions

Today:
Breakfast: String cheese (first day back at work! I need to wake up EARLIER!) & black tea
Snack: pickle
Lunch: Turkey breast, low-fat ranch & carrots, string cheese
Snack: celery
Dinner: Pork chop & small salad with low-fat cheese and low-fat ranch

I packed a good lunch today with snacks and lots of options! Should be a good day!

*Monday night update: Feeling totally hyper at 9:30 p.m. which almost NEVER happens! I feel really good. A lot of great stuff is going on in my life that I have to be giddy about but I feel like this diet is paying off! :-) Also, got side-tracked on 2 hour phone convo with Dad when I was supposed to be doing pilates! RUNNING TOMORROW, I SWEAR! --Lia

My first post

Wow! I finally made it home from "the holidays" at the 'rents...I am relieved. Finally my own bed, my own tea cup, and my own spot on the couch. I am late getting topost because I was at home where internet connection and a computer thats functional is hard to find. I would describe myself as hard working and commited. I was able to do South Beach Diet for an entire year and lost 40 pounds as result, but since then I have let myself get into some bad habits. In response to my grandmother finding out she had stage 4 cancer, I picked up smoking. This is a habit that must be kicked in 2009. It began as a cig here and there with a drink and it became something else entirely. I am not a smoker so this should not be the difficult part. The difficult part, I fear will be the lack of money that I have to go towards my cause. South Beach is a wonderful diet but it is costly. How can I lose weight with little/no money to buy food? I am going to have to get creative.

I am 26 years old, 12 days from turning 27. I am 5 foot 6 and 165 pounds (give or take a few). I eat well normally. My favorite foods are lean meats and salads. I particularly love eggs. I try to eat 5-6 small meals all throughout the day. I love to run and do workout videos at home. I also love aerobics and pilates. However recently I have been really depressed and have not felt much like working out. I moved to a new place and I don't know many people. One of my goals is to meet more people in my area. I hope working out more will put me in situations to do that.

My main challenges during this diet are gonna be purchasing food, making time each day to workout, and keeping up with this blog. What I hope to gain from this is... an enhanced self of self worth, more confidence, and a healthier approach to life. I would like to get a better nights sleep and feel more rested when i wake up. I would like to say daily affirmations to help myself maintain a positive outlook, I would like to meet other people in my area who like to workout.

I would like to lose anywhere from 30-40 pounds. I know that sounds like a lot but I think I can do it. I just need the support and the determination to finish what i set out to do. This would put me at a size 6 and that is what I need to accomplish to fit into my wedding dress (already purchased last year!) ahh. My wedding is being planned for May 29, 2010 so I need to get to work...More to come.....!

-Ash

And It Begins

Happy New Year! Today is officially day #2 of the diet & the new year! I've decided to go with the South Beach Diet and let a work out regime kind of evolve as time goes by. I'm going to be doing some walking at first, then running and all the while pilates for strengthening and some ab work outs as well.

No carbs! It's harder than I thought. You don't realize how many little things you grab to eat throughout the day are eliminated when you can't have carbs. I'm planning on eating a lot of veggies, salads... I am breaking the rules a bit by eating fruit, but only because I think I would keel over without some source of sugar in my life.

I'm feeling a little weak and tired today (and yesterday) but mentally I feel good, feel strong. As I look at myself in the mirror I am more and more driven to follow through with the diet/lifestyle change because I am so unhappy with the fat that has found a way onto my stomach, back and sides. I can't wait to see the results I want: a toned body! And to FEEL better. Not to feel like an old lady anymore!

Tonight I'm meeting Callie in Arlington for dinner. Should be interesting to have my first real restaurant-diet experience! Hope they have good salads!

Yesterday:
BFAST: Eggs, Black Tea
SNACK: Mozz string cheese
LUNCH: Panaera Salad: romaine lettuce, tomatoes, almonds, chicken, balsamic dressing
SNACK: Handful of dry roasted cashews & almonds (from SB-diet mixture)
DINNER: Salad: romaine lettuce, tuna, little cheddar cheese, carrots, balsamic dressing

Today:
BFAST: Eggs, Black Tea
SNACK: Apple w/ peanut butter
LUNCH: 'Sandwich roll' = piece of fat free turkey sandwich meat rolled around a mozz string
SNACK: 2 pickles
DINNER: Salad with grilled salmon, tomatoes, feta, carrots, red onion, champagne vinagrette

Happy Saturday! -Lia
